Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children under 18. In advance of the Cruinniú na nÓg day of celebration, on the 15th June across Ireland, Cork County Council held a Creative Wish Competition which was open to all the primary schools in the county. Tristan Curren won the competition out of over 600 entries and our whole class was so lucky to get the opportunity to learn the guitar along with him.
Cork County Mayor, Frank O’Flynn came in to see our progress during a lesson with our teacher, Gerard O’Callaghan. Ger is an enthusiastic and patient teacher who has generously volunteered his time to help us to learn. We will have a “Battle of the Bands” to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg and we can’t thank him enough for his help. Let’s hope some pupils will discover a love for the instrument that they will continue to enjoy throughout their lives.
